Similar laws in various countries govern data privacy and consent, often modeled on GDPR principles. Given that these regulations are crafted by legal professionals, it's expected to encounter some legal terminology. Therefore, we've compiled a glossary encompassing terms commonly encountered in Sales Titan, as well as additional ones to aid in comprehending prevalent language pertaining to data privacy and consent.
Personal data
Information pertaining to an individual or contact, such as their name, national ID number, address, IP address, and similar details, falls under the category of personally identifiable information (PII).

Consent terms
Granting authorization to utilize or disclose data can be achieved through opting-in or may be implied.
Under the GDPR and analogous data privacy legislations, consent must meet certain criteria: it must be freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous. Consent needs to be expressed positively and affirmatively, and in certain circumstances, it must be explicitly provided.
When an individual clearly expresses their approval and agreement to have their data processed. For instance, this could involve responding “Yes” to receiving text messages from a business.
When consent can be reasonably inferred from a person’s actions or lack thereof. For example, when a customer purchases a product from a business, their personal data would be processed to facilitate shipping, provide customer support, etc.
When a contact has consented to the collection, storage, transmission, etc., of their data, also referred to as data processing. According to the GDPR and other privacy regulations, this consent must be “freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous.”
